I ran across a quote in a book I am reading by Will Mancini, entitled: Church Unique: How Missional Leaders Cast Vision, Capture Culture, And Create Movement, which says, “You won’t do ministry that matters until you define what matters.” In my opinion, that could be even further defined as … until you define what matters to you. (Reread this paragraph and really give it some thought!)
I have discovered that it is often hard to get excited over another person’s vision, dream, or calling! Personally meaningful ministry happens when you define what really matters to you and you are laboring within the boundaries of that definition. And here’s the good news – when you are laboring within those boundaries, they do not “confine” you – they “define” you! My friend, Pastor Greg Brown, says it this way, “Finding your piece of sky and soaring in it!” That’s what defines you!
Pastors, my Encouraging Word to you today is: Don’t get so burden down in other people’s definition and expectations of your ministry that you lose your definition of what matters in your ministry. Don’t forget where your piece of sky is or how to soar in it!
Guys, I hope you preach good Sunday. Remember to let ‘er rip, Tater Chip!
