Guys: I was waxing a little nostalgic as I sat down at my computer to write this week’s Encouraging Word to Pastors. Recent events have once again reminded me that life is fragile and we’re not guaranteed old age. As some of you, I am now entering the fourth quarter of my life. By earthly standards, I have more days behind me now than I have left in front of me. And as I paused for a moment to reflect upon this, I can honestly say that I’m truly glad that I have given Jesus the best years of my life.
So, what Encouraging Word do I have for you today? It’s simply this: Don’t squander “now” for “someday.” Don’t give Jesus “what’s left” of your life or ministry; give Him “what’s first!”
As I was writing … the lyrics to the old hymn, “My Jesus I Love Thee,” came to my mind. Sometimes we can say it no better than has already been said. So, please take a moment read, ponder, be blessed by, and be encouraged by the lyrics of this old hymn that were penned by William J. Featherstone, in 1864:
1: My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
2: I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
3: I’ll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death dew lies cold on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
4: In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
Hey, I hope you preach gooooood Sunday. Remember to let ‘er rip, Tater Chip!!!
I love you guys and I prayed for you today!
