As you lead in the area of ministry that God has both called and gifted you; the little formula below will always serve as a wonderful reminder to you. Print this and put it where you will see it. Use it as a constant reminder. You may even want to make it your screensaver. Who knows?
A leader:
- Knows the way: He Educates himself.
- Goes the way: He is an Example to others.
- Shows the way: He Enlightens others.
As you flesh out these three leadership truths you will learn to “move with the movers” and to not get hung-up with “under-motivated” leaders. I have learned that if a person wants to be a part of your ministry or your personal life, they will make an obvious effort to do so. Think twice before reserving a space on your leadership team, your inner circle, or in your heart for people who do not make an effort to stay. Guys, if you have to convince and prod people to do what God has called them to do – move on! Revisit their place on your team only when they come to the point in their walk with the Lord that He is their motivating force – not you! You need people/leaders who add value. One of the greatest mistakes you can make as a leader is allowing yourself to become encumbered with “leaders” on your team who detract from your leadership abilities and resources. Guys, you cannot “fix” anybody. Only God can do that. And it is only when God has “fixed” somebody that they become able to add the value you need added to both your ministry team and to you as a leader I know this is a tough teaching! However, it is hardcore leadership/ministry truth! And the sooner you learn it, embrace it, and practice it, the sooner you will become as the leader God wants you to become.
So, what do you do as a leader? Reread 1-3 above!
